Xcel plant to tap solar energy

Posted on September 1st, 2009

GreenWire: An Xcel Energy plant in Cameo, Colo., will install solar panels in an effort to reduce its internal coal use.

The $4.5 million solar unit, developed in conjunction with Abengoa Solar, is projected to replace about 900 tons of the 230,000 tons of coal burned at the plant every year.

Under Colorado law, Xcel is required to produce 20 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020 (Mark Jaffe, Denver Post, Aug. 28). – PR
